With an atmosphere that's a little quieter, a little less hurried and a lot less like the rest of the world, Lee County residents reverently refer to their home as "Paradise".

Fort Myers, dubbed the "City of Palms," is the hub of Lee County. Thomas Edison arrived here in 1886 and built his winter home and laboratory, an attraction which draws thousands of visitors yearly.

Adjoining the estate is the winter home of Edison's close friend, Henry Ford. Fort Myers can thank Edison for the hundreds of Royal Palm trees that line McGregor Boulevard, which parallels the river.

The downtown area, featuring a large marina and a charming historical district, is undergoing a renaissance of nightlife and apartment living. The waterfront Harborside Convention Center and Centennial Park are host to numerous community events.

Extensive renovation of the historic downtown waterfront is underway, with new restaurants, nightclubs, apartments, and artistic venues providing energy and growth.
